Frequently Asked Questions:
What is financial planning?
Financial planning is an ongoing process that will help you identify and reach your life goals. Whether you want to plan for retirement, your children's education, your insurance needs, your family's financial security, or minimizing taxes, you can benefit from financial planning.
What is independent financial planning?
This means that we sell no investment products or insurance. Our advice to you is in no way affected by commissions on these products or by pressure from "head office" to sell their products. Our recommendations may include advice on the types of financial products you should consider, but will not include a sales pitch for a specific product.
How much does financial planning cost?
Our fees are based on the services you require. Our hourly rates are competitive with other professional accountants and financial planners. We offer a 30 minute initial consultation free of charge or obligation, during which we can determine your requirements, and formulate an action plan and cost estimate.
Are the fees tax-deductible?
This will depend upon the nature of the services we have provided to you. During our initial consultation, we can advise you on the deductibility of our fees for the specific services you require.
What is a "Personal Financial Plan"?
This is a comprehensive plan we prepare and provide to you in an easy-to-read format. It is essentially a "blueprint" for you to follow to reach your goals. The report typically includes:
an analysis of your current financial position
an analysis of your current lifestyle expenditures and income
a description of the goals you wish to attain
our recommendations and financial projections to help you reach your goals
Do I need a "Personal Financial Plan"?
Everyone should consider the potential benefits of a financial plan. It is no longer true that only the wealthy can afford or can benefit from a Personal Financial Plan. Today, minimizing taxes and maximizing financial security are more important than ever to average Canadians. We will only recommend those financial planning services that are cost-effective for you. Our initial interview will help determine whether you could benefit from a Personal Financial Plan.
